Dear Students enrolled in ADMS courses,

As approved by York University’s Senate Executive on January 21st, 2009, the Atkinson School of Administrative Studies will resume activities beginning on Monday, January 26th, 2009.

Atkinson will resume all Administrative Studies (i.e., ADMS) undergraduate courses effective Monday, January 26th (with the exception of ADMS3740 Health and Aging which is being offered by the School of Nursing for their students) within the remediation framework approved by Senate Executive for the resumption of academic activities.

The resumption of ADMS courses applies to all students enrolled in any Fall or Full Year ADMS course regardless of their individual program or Faculty (with the single exception of ADMS3740 noted above).

ADMS courses will be offered during the three week period starting on Monday, January 26th and ending February 13, 2009. Students should assume that classes will be held at the same time and location as before the strike began but you are also directed to check the School of Administrative Studies website over the weekend at http://www.atkinson.yorku.ca/sa. The School will be posting relevant information for all courses.

You are further advised to check the individual course websites and to check your email. As courses resume, some course directors may send you additional information by email and/or post updates on their course websites.

Final ADMS examinations will be scheduled by the Registrar’s Office (RO). Examinations will start February 14th, 2009 and end February 22nd, 2009. Note that the University will be closed on Monday, February 16th, 2009 for Family Day. No examinations will be held on that day. [Please ignore any other information that might have been previously circulated by your course directors regarding the examination period. The dates posted in this note have been confirmed with the RO.]

Accommodations will be made for students who do not wish to resume classes before the strike is over or who are unable to do so. Students are directed to the School of Administrative Studies website for further instructions at http://www.atkinson.yorku.ca/sas.

The Atkinson Faculty of Liberal and Professional Studies will be providing support for both instructors and students including workshops for students that are intended to help students resume their studies if needed. These workshops are voluntary. For further information, please go to http://www.atkinson.yorku.ca/remediation. All information from the workshops will be posted on the website should students be unable to attend. Relevant links to the Registrar’s Office and other sites that might be useful will also be posted on the website. In the short term, take note that the first workshop has been scheduled for Sunday, January 25th, 2009 between 6 and 9 pm in Room 109 Accolade West. At this session, you will be able to ask questions and speak to members of the Atkinson community about the remediation process.

I would like to extend a warm and personal welcome back to you. The School of Administrative Studies and the Dean’s Office determined that it was imperative to resume the ADMS courses given the nature and timing of externally-mandated requirements for certification and other constraints imposed by bodies external to the University. We are mindful however that all students would like to return to classes and we look forward to the resolution of the current contract negotiations.

    Rhonda Lenton
    Dean
Atkinson Faculty of Liberal and Professional Studies
