You realize this post was entirely unnecessary. You could have just reasoned the no exams in December by citing the recent Senate decision regarding exams with Osgoode.

Arrgh! Student 101! This is not about 10 hours a week! Full-time graduate students, making a 2-6 year commitment to the university have historically been subsidized at a living wage, in return for some hours of service to the university. For heaven's sake, back in the Middle Ages when the monks ran the universities, it was that way. I mean, yeah, if you were in training to join the monastery it was crappy work for a long time, sweeping the floors and all, and probably not a lot of child-care benefits, but it's not like you had to get a part-time job in the town tavern to subsidize your keep. They fed you and took care of you when you were sick, and in return you gave them your brains and your work for the rest of your life! Contract faculty want benefits because they've already made that committment to the university, and they work more than 10 hrs a week! (one course is counted as more than that!) and yet they don't get the same access to benefits as every other unionized group on campus, such as secretaries, janitors and professors! Because they are "contract" workers, who "just happen" to have worked full-time for years. Your arguments make total sense but only if the picture is as you describe it, and it's not!!!
